Neighborhood

The Beaverton Neighborhood is One of America’s Best Cities

The City of Beaverton sits in Washington County — seven miles west of Portland, Oregon— in the scenic Tualatin River Valley. Encompassing just less than 20 square miles, Beaverton is home to 97,000 people, making it Oregon’s sixth-largest city. The combination of affordable housing, lower property taxes, and cultural diversity caused Money magazine to rank Beaverton as its ninth best place to live in 2016.

Area Amenities

Outdoor lovers will enjoy Beaverton’s expansive green spaces. The area features 100 parks spread throughout the city, covering some 1,000 acres. These green spaces are also well-distributed. The city boasts that there’s a park within a half-mile of every home in the area. What’s more, the Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation District administers 30 miles of hiking trails and a 25-mile network of bike paths. So you’ll never be too far from a little outdoor fun.

Beaverton residents also enjoy many amenities that aren’t always associated with suburban living. Washington Square — one of the area’s largest shopping centers — features several top-tier retailers you typically only find in big cities. The area is also home to dozens of churches across all dominations. Plus, residents are close to Portland, and its endless shopping and entertainment opportunities.

The city also prides itself on its diversity. One in five Beaverton residents were born outside the United States, which creates a cultural mix you can’t find elsewhere. As a result, the city benefits from a wide array of delicious dining options you don’t usually find in the suburbs. This diversity also makes its way into the classroom, where children speak more than 100 different languages inside city schools.

One of the State’s Best School Districts

That diversity has helped Beaverton build one of the best school systems in the state. With nearly 41,000 students spread across more than 50 schools, the district produces high SAT scores and recently ranked as the fifth-best school district in the state. With excellent schools, plenty of parks and outdoor spaces, and big-city amenities, it’s no wonder people flock to Beaverton to raise families.

Plenty of Major Employers

Beaverton is also home to several major employers. Nike’s world headquarters lies within the city limits, as does local food manufacturer Reser’s Fine Foods. The city has also been home to Leupold & Stevens, maker of rifle scopes and other optics, since 1968. Thanks to its reputation as the Silicon Forest, many high-tech firms are also located within the city. With so many employment opportunities, it’s easy to understand why Washington County features the highest median household income in the state.

A High Percentage of Renters

The city is also a hotbed for investment property owners. According to the ranking and review site Niche, roughly 52% of area residents rent their homes. As Beaverton’s impressive local amenities continue drawing in new residents, investment property owners will see no end to well-qualified tenants.
